December 2007 by Joe De Matteo
This is one heck of a film. Once again
Philip Seymour Hoffman becomes another person - he
is, in my opinion, one of the best actors of our
time. Another great actor is Tom Hanks, but,
that goes without saying. What is worth saying
is that we need to see these two men work together
again.
Julia Roberts commands the
screen every time she walks in. That makes 3
of the best Hollywood has to offer in one great
film.
Let us not forget the
great Mike Nicholas, a true national treasure.
From his days on the Steve Allen show in the 1950s
with his then partner Elaine May. Their comedy
was superb.
If your a young one and
you want to catch up on the work of a great
director, here is a list of classic films, must see
films, all directed by Mr. Nicholas. By the
way, Mike Nicholas is 76 years old at this writing.
Joe De Matteo's pick of the best Mike Nicholas
films: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The
Graduate, Catch-22, Carnal Knowledge, The Day of the
Dolphin, Gilda Live, Annie, Heartburn, Silkwood,
Biloxi Blues, Wolf, The Birdcage, Postcards from the
Edge, Regarding Henry, The Remains of the Day,
Closer. All worth seeing.
Oh, Charlie Wilson's
War? Yes. It's SUPER. I'll own it
when the DVD comes out.
