Enemy of...
by Joe De Matteo
HUGE
An excellent 2-hour escape from your reality. Enemy of
the State is a non-stop experience; once the chase
starts every scene tingles with electricity.
Gene Hackman,
one of America’s great actors, plays it exciting and
believable.
Will Smith
does a tremendous job here, too. As the young attorney,
Robert Clayton Dean, Smith, not over doing the
“Will Smith” character, gives us a taste of his true acting
ability. |

All too often,
in my opinion, Mr. Smith uses his TV persona to crack-wise
for high box office draw. But he does this at the expense
of presenting us with the best of the character in the film
we’re watching. This may work, this obviously does work, to
satisfy the low denominator and bring in the bucks, but it
does so by compromising the quality of a movie, the story, and
it
diminishes Will Smith the actor.
Hey, I’m a
Will Smith fan. That is why this bothers me so much. This
persona worked great in Men in Black, but thank
goodness they strayed from it in Enemy of the State.
Enemy of
the State is a movie with suspense, thrills, action and
excitement, yes, and excellent acting. I love to read those
books you just can’t put down, and judging this movie by
that gauge…
Enemy of the State
is a winner! |
