Guess Who
by Michael Flanagan
Solid
There’s a moment in Guess Who when Ashton
Kutcher’s character Simon realizes that his future
father-in-law, Percy Jones, is putting him in a hotel instead of
allowing him to stay at his home with his daughter. He then
realizes that Percy made the reservation a week before. Simon
says, “You knew I was staying in a hotel a week ago?” Percy
says “I knew you were staying in a hotel 24 years ago when the
doctor said it’s a girl.”
This is a wonderful sample of the type of
humor in this movie. It’s a great blend of heartfelt comedy,
slapstick comedy, and some serious, but not too serious, moments
of sincerity. The comedy is truly funny, and the heart is truly
hearty.
All in all, it’s a good time, with a
wonderful comedic performance by Bernie Mac. He carries this
movie and deserves continued notice.
See it, rent it, or buy it. And then see
the original, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Both are great
watches. |
