| The
Germans have won World War II. The Germans are
occupying Japan. As a result, the Japanese culture
and services are being modeled after the German.
There is rebellion in the streets. To counteract
these rebellious influences, a special police force is
formed. With a Nazi-like efficiency, these trained
killers storm the city streets extinguishing every spark
of dissention. The problem is that they're
stepping on the toes of the police force already in
place. With both forces at odds, a conspiracy
unfolds. A mysterious third party emerges, The
Wolf Brigade. |
| Amongst
all of this political intrigue, Kazuki Fuse, a member of
the special police, grapples with his humanity after he
fails to stop a young rebel who blows herself up in
front of him. Later he meets her sister who also
seems to be caught up in the rebellion. They fall
in love. Now they find themselves at the center of
a vast conspiracy that seems to be set on tearing them
apart. Set to the recurring theme of a very
macabre Little Red Riding Hood, Kazuki and his lover
must overcome the forces of their own conflicted
government, or die trying. |

| Jin-Roh
(which means "man-wolf") is a fascinating
and masterfully crafted anime. I consider it one
of the finest films I've ever seen (anime or
otherwise). This dark tale of toxic love is not
exactly light-hearted fun, but it is enthralling and
intelligent. This is the thinking person's kind of
anime. If you are looking for high adventure and
action packed fight scenes, then look elsewhere.
Although Jin-Roh is full of haunting visuals and
beautiful animation, as well as some scenes that will
stick with you forever, it is not a fun ride. It
is, in fact, slow and methodical. It is that slow
nature that compels me to knock it down a notch to
"Super."
Consider yourself warned. I highly recommend this
film to serious anime enthusiasts. |
