Doesn't
marriage counseling always involve bloodshed?
What a great freaking movie.
Truly, this is great flick, funny as hell,
beautifully directed, well-written (except for Vince
Vaughn's un-adlibbed lines, which are awful, thank
goodness he's talented enough to adlib the best
parts), and wonderfully acted.
Whatever the rumor-mill has to say, Brad Pitt and
Angelina Jolie do have fantastic chemistry and pull
off being a married couple, both in boredom and in
bullets. The story is clever, and well put
together, the action fantastic and the special
effects are almost unnoticable, which is a good
thing these days. My favorite bit of CG is
Angelina Jolie's Batman jump.
What makes this movie is dialogue between the
husband and wife, as they must reintroduce
themselves to each other, their false identities
aside. All this must happen while fighting for
their lives, and trying to decide whether to save
the marriage or murder each other. The
bookending of marriage counseling makes it come full
circle and work perfectly.
And the Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid reference
is awesome in the tool shed sequence.
There's not a whole lot of opining one can do about
this movie; it's not overly deep, it's not at all
shallow. Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a wonderful
commentary about marriage using an extreme situation
to talk about day to day life in stagnation... which
it doesn't have to be.
See this in theaters; you'll laugh, you'll... laugh,
and you'll love the action. Truly a super
movie.

Solid
This film takes me back to the old romantic
comedies, well, that's me. It's a fun movie
that many of us will find rewatchable, but I think
it will be more successful on DVD than in the
theaters. Don't get me wrong, it is absolutely
worth seeing in theaters. It's a great date
film, a good movie for both him and her to enjoy.
Brad Pitt is great in this type of part; cool,
funny, and a tough guy that woman like. |
