Tremors
2: Oh No, Not Again
by Michael Flanagan
Solid
Tremors 2:
Aftershocks lacks a little bit of
what Tremors boasted.
It lacks Kevin Bacon, for one,
which takes away enough to allow you
to miss him for too much of the movie.
It lacks Reba, too, which is
sad until you realize she was probably
on tour earning millions and having
the time of her life…again.
It lacks the innocence of the
first—instead of running from the
horrible things, they’re hunting
them.
At least in the beginning, and
by the time they’re running, the
things aren’t quite as horrible.
But it has some
definite good qualities.
Fred Ward takes the single head-honcho
comedian role. And it has
Michael Gross, still carrying
explosives.
He may be even funnier in this
film than the first.
And it still has the things,
now labeled Grabites, though they may
show up in unusual incarnations now
and again.
And it has the sense of humor.
The jokes may be slightly used
up, and the script may be a little
looser than before, but the sense of
the thing is still there, and that
gives this less than quality sequel to
a should-be less than quality movie
enough heart to make it worth a watch.
