Looking forward to the release
by Joe De Matteo
Philip Seymour Hoffman is not an Al Pacino,
Robert Redford or Harrison Ford, not that I find any of them
attractive, but many women find them sexy, and while I'm sure
there are plenty of women who feel the same way about Mr.
Hoffman, he hasn't build a reputation as a sex symbol. One
reputation Philip Seymour Hoffman has built with many, one of
whom is me, is that he is an excellent actor.
The big sycophant assistant to the
unimportant Jeffrey Lebowski, Scotti in Boogie Nights,
Lester Bangs, the almost famous rock n roll critic, Freddy Lounds
in Red Dragon, Phil Parma in Magnolia, Rusty Zimmerman
in Flawless, Mitch Roman in Patch Adams. Freddie Miles
in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Dustin Davis in Twister,
Officer Raymer in Nobody's Fool, Jacob Elinsky in 25th
Hour, all different, some radically different performances
by Philip Seymour; and I enjoyed them all.
Drama is not the type of movie that has me
waiting in line. I looked forward to the Star Wars
episodes, Matrix Reloaded, Die Hard III, The Patriot, T2, Indian
Jones, but not drama. Philip Seymour Hoffman playing this
part has me looking forward to Owning Mahowny. |
