HugeReview.com's Christian De Matteo has
been all hopped up on the new Rambo film (In
development) ever since he saw the trailer.
It seems that the Weinstein Company filed
suit against Nu Image because NI offered
distribution to Loinsgate, when Weinstein
has right of first refusal.
The original plotline followed a "retired"
John Rambo going out to find a missing
child, however the reported plotline as of
this writing is that Rambo is living a
secluded life in Bangkok, Thailand, earning
a living by turning war material into scrap
metal. A group of Christian
Missionaries and local people are being
tortured and murdered in Burma by a brutal
wing of the Burmese military.
HISTORY: The democratically elected
government of Burma was overthrown in a coup
by the military in 1962. As the military
government tightened its grip on the people,
the crushed their opposition and protestors
by the thousand - some 3,000 died in 1988
alone. In '99 the junta declared
complete martial law, and even changed
the name of the country to Mayanmar.
After all these years of protesting against
the military government - and being thwarted
and crushed at every turn, the democratic
forces left in the country, along with the
Buddhist monks, who are also having their
rights trampled, are finally joined by
regular citizens when the government causes
fuel prises to skyrocket this summer (2007).
One-hundred thousand people march against
the government, and are brutally dealt with,
the Buddhist monks are targeted and many
were killed.
My guess is that this history is the
backdrop of the film. Here is the
