Whatever:
Return to Neverland
by Christian De Matteo
Wimpy
Utterly devoid of any new ideas at Main
Studio, Disney, Return to Neverland is
the latest in the "Save the company by
making crappy straight-to-video sequels to
classic films" campaign. And it is
just that. Wendy's kids now get to go
chill with the boy in green and not much
ensues. The Lost Boys are gross, Peter
is "swashbuckling" (or something)
and Hook is... well, completely missed by the
screenwriter who gave him the personality of
the clock in the crocodile's stomach.
The film, as all these stupid Disney sequels
have so far, totally misses what made the
original great, and turns all the characters
into 2 dimensional cardboard cutouts, sporting
only pratfalls and silly one-liners in lieu of
quality excitement and cool.
Kids'll get a kick out of it, will find it
funny, maybe even touching, not remembering (or
knowing at all) the magic of the original.
Disney should either go back to square one, or
close down and let Pixar take over. Toy
Story and Monster's
Inc. are the types of films they should
be focusing on because they've obviously
forgotten how to make a real, quality,
honest-to-goodness cartoon film.
'Tis a shame, indeed.
P.S. My little sisters love it,
so what the hell do I know?
