The Ring
by Scott Walton
Super
Seeing the preview for this film really piqued my interest. There
was something about it that did not reek of teenage slasher films, but also
gave a dread feeling of darkness. When I see a scary movie, I
really enjoy a movie that not only skirts around the dark places of your mind
that you are wondering what is there and then it sends you right in the middle
of it to see what is in there (Not a hockey mask wearing, knife fingering
wielding misunderstood teenager).
The first 10 minutes of this movie grab ahold of you and take you to those
dark places. Verbinski does a fantastic job of building the
suspense to a peak and then throwing you over. Later on as you are
watching the video that is supposedly "cursed", you to have a
feeling that you should not be watching this and that you are going to get the
phone call after the movie is over.
Granted the movie does get a little overdone with sending people to mental
hospitals and horses dying on the beach, but it still holds together to
provide a fun, yes FUN and scary time at the movie. That, if you
remember is what movies started out as in the beginning.
Go see this movie if you can at a theater, if not get the biggest screen you
can and turn out all the lights. Guaranteed, you will have problems
looking at a blank TV screen once this is over.

The ring was the best
thriller in 2000. I mean, yeah, I don't watch that many, maybe
15 or 20 a year, but still, it was good. My only problem is why
the heck doesn't Rachel (Naomi Watts) just get rid of the tape
after she watches it. I'm like, COMMON SENSE, DUDE!!
But I thought it was great and that's what matters. So I give
The Ring, 2 thumbs up!

HUGE: I mean why did they wait till 2000 to make this movie!!!
really its not a movie it is a gift from god. think about it it is
the PERFECT psycological thriller and not TOOOO gory (the dried up
bodies are a nice effect...) but what i dont understand is why all
the horses commit suicide. but the mom killed the girl because the
girl was giving her the creepy visions right? OOO and what was with
the nosebleeds? and adam brody was pretty hot even though he had a
REALLY small role... |
