Before and After: updates and
previews |

August 2007 by Joe De Matteo
It is said that a week before the end of shooting,
(storyline: town is in the midst of a severe
drought) a snow storm came through and dumped 24
inches of snow on the town. "Quick come out
the shovels and men started shoveling snow off
roofs, balconies and every dang surface that had
snow on it; and that meant all of them.
Bulldozers piled up the snow out of camera shot and
big dump trucks, 'bout 90 of 'em, brings in dry dirt
and spreads it out everywhere."
Anyway, that what I was told.
If you like old
fashioned cowboy movies, this one is for you.

Production is moving along well, from what I hear;
it is Hollywood, right? Lion's Gate is
planning a release in the Fall of 2007. |

August 2006 - Joe De Matteo
I have to say this...but first I'll say this:
Russell Crowe is an excellent actor, I enjoy his
performances, many of which are, simply put,
memorable. I like Christian Bale, if you saw
The Machinist and
Reign of Fire
you know he's a very, very talented man. Now.
Having said that, I have to ask this question, why
can't they find a couple of Americans to star in
this film. I'm sure I'm going to love it, what
with Mangold directing and these two excellent
actors, but, with the exception of Tom Cruse, who
was rumored to have had first dibbs on the starring
role, why not an American? We do have a lot of
good American actors.
Well, so much for my
rant. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS FILM! |
| August
2006 - Joe De Matteo It
looks like 3:10 to Yuma is back on track with the
announcement of new financing, and the latest news
of Christian Bale and Russell Crowe on board.
The Elmore Leonard penned western was originally
filmed in 1953, and starred Glenn Ford and Van
Heflin (Shane). Columbia was home to the new
production for about 4 years, and then put it on
turnaround, which is not good news. Enter
Relativity Media with financing, and these two box
office great actors, and every thing looks rosy for
3:10 to Yuma.
PLOT LINE: Outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) is
captured in a small town. Dan Evens (Christian
Bale), a small-time rancher is enlisted to hold the
outlaw until his train to Yuma, and justice,
arrives. It's will against will as Wade works
on Evens physiologically; he'll do anything to stay
off the 3:10 to Yuma. |
