Take it, again
by Joe De Matteo
Solid
This is one of those plot lines that has been done a
number of times before. Whether it's a part of a
criminal's body, like the hands of a murderer, transplanted on a
wonderful, compassionate person's, or a demon possession, it is
a not unpopular premise. But to make it succeed, again,
the writer has to make interesting characters, suspenseful
scenes; it has to be compelling, and easy to follow-but it
cannot be predictable. |

Taking Lives has interesting characters, a good venue,
suspense, and it is compelling. It even has three
excellent actors (Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, Kiefer
Sutherland). However...
In a effort to make it somewhat
unpredictable, many feel that it borders on fanciful.
D. J. Caruso has made a very
worthwhile film, so if you like the actors, you'll like the
film. Be like me, remember you're watching a movie, not a
documentary, sit back and enjoy it.
Here's a good idea, however, if you get
the DVD and watch the director's cut you'll see a much better
film than appeared in the theaters. I believe that
Director's Cut DVD will bring more viewers in as fans.
So, do you like thrillers? Do
you like thrillers with a slight supernatural bent? Do you
like to look at Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke or Keifer
Sutherland? Yes, yes, yes? Good, get this disc into
your player, grab the pop corn and let it rip. |
