| Well, I
certainly won't go so far as to say it was better than 1 or 2, it
wasn't but... damn. T3 is awesome, full of incredible
action, a car chase that destroys half a city with a speeding,
swinging crane, a hot TX (the new villian) and a sense of humor on
the part of the director (see Arnold's new entrance sequence), the
film surpasses most action films and is a very, very worthy entry
into the series. Well done, Jonathon Mostow. |

For those not
utterly movie obsessed like the psycho writing this review, Mostow
is the guy responsible for one of the best submarine movies of
recent times (and one of maybe 4 made in the last few years)
U-571. As with that film, Mostow obviously spent a good deal
of time researching his subject matter, studing plot and style
points, and pick and chose what he wanted to preserve... and what
he didn't.
This is not a
James Cameron Terminator film. It is a Mostow
one. The philosophy is less optimistic (and more on target
to my cynical mind) and the Cameron blue tint (as Mike kept
reminding me) is gone. To my mind, these changes and
omissions make the film fresh, rather than a tired retread,
something it couldn't be further fun. T3 picks up right
where the series left off and continues the progression, which we
thought was forever stopped in Judgment Day.
One major down side
is the loss of the Terminator theme music, used so well by the
Shermanator in American Pie 2. Every time he appears
holding a gun, I thought to myself, Chu-chu-chu-cha-chu.
Otherwise,
however, this is one of the best action movies in years, an
awesome treat for Terminator fans, and nowhere near the bomb it
could have been. Well, done, Johnathan.
