| What is more appealing than the
classic tale of a lone, tortured hero who finds love while kicking the
stuffing out of some grotesque villains? D is a half human, half
vampire hybrid that has dedicated his life to loosening the stranglehold
that vampire aristocracy has on humankind. Wandering from place to
place like a Ronin samurai, he fights the forces of darkness as a force
of darkness. |

This film is unique in its style.
It is very much a horror movie, but with the kind of melodrama that can
only be found in Animé. At times, it might remind you of an
action-packed version of the classic sci-fi soap opera Dark Shadows.
What I love best about Vampire Hunter
D is the creativity that went into the characters and
monsters. Much of it goes unexplained, and that's what I like
about it. The film creates its own world with its own laws and
does not stop to explain them to the viewer. You just have to take
it as it comes and appreciate it for what it is.

|
Compared to more contemporary Animé, the
film does look a little basic. Some might see the artwork, sound
effects, music, and script as a little outdated by today's standards,
but overall, Vampire Hunter D still satisfies. The overall
quality and trend setting nature that this film has, makes it a true
Animé classic, one of my favorites, and a HUGE film.
