Varsity Blues

I sat down staring at my movie collection for quite a bit of
time trying to decide which one I should write a review on.
I have a wide variety ranging from the ultimate of chick
flicks, to the comedies that I just can’t get enough of, and
yes I even own many of those movies that are satirized in Not
Another Teen Movie (which is a movie so awful that for the
sake of everyone involved with it should never be brought up
again.). I decided to go with the one that I’ve see probably
the most of them all, Varsity Blues.
I’ve seen this movie countless times to the point where
I’ve become that annoying person who says the lines along with
the movie. I
remember when I saw it the first time, I came out of the theatre
knowing that it wouldn’t be the only time I’d be seeing that
movie. |

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, and I’d be
surprised if it was any of you, this movie is basically about a
football team from West Canaan, Texas, a town where football is
life. The whole
town seems to be counting on the high school football team to
bring home yet another division title to the town.
The boys on the team are treated differently, as if they
are better than anyone else. The main character, John Moxon (James Van Der Beek), is left
to lead the team when the starting quarterback is seriously
injured. Mox, as
they call him, isn’t as into the football team as everyone
else is and leaves the coach unable to trust if he can actually
do it or not. The
boys are under serious pressure from their coach, Bud Kilmer
(Jon Voight) to win the title for him.
Expect to see as you would in any movie directed at
teenagers- school, parties, alcohol, strip clubs, sex and of
course, football games.

This movie is one that I
would definitely recommend to anyone. I can’t think of a
person I’ve talked to who’s seen this movie who hasn’t
liked it. If you
haven’t seen it and you think I’m exaggerating then I
suggest you go out and rent this movie ASAP.
Or if you have seen it and you think I’m exaggerating
on its greatness, well then maybe you need to go rent it and try
watching it again. Even if you’re not a fan of the game, I
think you would still enjoy it just as much, so don’t think
just because you don’t like football you won’t like this
movie.
