Y Tu Mama Tambien

Initially I expected this to be a great teen aged sex comedy, ala
Porkies or American Pie. I thought it would be funny, and light-hearted,
but not terribly deep. I was pleasantly surprised. In this Bildungsfilm, Cuarón deals not only with the changing nature friendship and relationships,
but also class, wealth and poverty, loyalty and love. It's also one of the
sexiest and funniest films of the year.
Two teens, Julio (Gael García Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna), have just
lost their girlfriends who are traveling in Europe for the summer. When disrupting family parties and masturbating by the pool fail to occupy their
time, they talk Luisa (Maribel Verdú), an older (20's) neglected wife of Tenoch's cousin, into joining them on a road trip to the greatest of all
beaches, Heaven's mouth (a name and a beach which Tenoch made up on the spot).
Their ride to the mythical beach turns into a journey of sexual
adventures and discoveries, and which all boundaries gradually fall.
Tenoch, the son of a rich and corrupt politician, and Julio, the much poorer son of
a single working mother, ride off on their adventure with Luisa, who has reasons of her own for leaving a boring life behind her. They pass through
soldiers, and poverty, and funerals, and religious festivals. The Mexico they see is unlike anything seen on a travel brochure. As they travel they
learn about life, and about each other, and the clear cut rules of their boyhood
Burschenshaft prove more and more inadequate. Anger, regret and forgiveness are their companion as often as desire, passion and joy. Sex
causes fights, sex heals fights, and sex sometimes take them directions they
never consciously wanted to go. The more they learn about each other, and
about themselves, the more we see that no one involved will ever be the same.
This film, in Spanish with subtitles, should not be missed. It's
definitely the foreign film to see this summer.

Y Tu Mama Tambien is a film about lust and unconditional love
between two friends. in this film Tenoch (Diego Luna) and Julio (Gael
Garcia Bernal) are looking for the easiest way to satisfy their most
immediate needs. as the film progresses, we meet a woman by the name of
Louisa (Maribel Verdu) much older than Julio and Tenoch. at first sight
of Louisa Julio and Tenoch immediately want to "fallar" with her. their
rejection is most embarrassing. as the film proceeds we find that
Louisa's husband cheats on her leaving her devastated, Louisa then calls
Julio in compliance to go to the "great boca del cielo", a beach only
thought to be made up by Tenoch. this opportunity to again, "fallar",
will not be wasted by Tenoch. Tenoch then calls up Julio in overwhelming
shock and tells him to hurry and pack his things. this is where the
premise is over and the film is ready to take its place; on a journey
that will lead them to the "boca del cielo" that will temporarily break
the friendship of Julio and Tenoch only for their mutual love for
Louisa. i give rate this film a five if I could. unquestionably one of
the greatest films of all time, containing two very talented actors
Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal, also known for their friendship away
from the screen.
All take care, i recommend everyone see this film; more than once.
