A
true high point in gross out comedy:
American Pie
by Christian De Matteo
Super
In preparation for the
much-anticipated sequel, I re-watched American
Pie again with some friends and found
myself as hysterical as I was the first and
second time.
Generally, I’m not a big fan of
high school centered movies, but this one
almost reaches the college level of classics
like Animal House.
What other film has ever so
brilliantly utilized baked goods for such a
disgusting display of teen experimentation?
Comedic perfection is indeed reached
with the punch line, “It’s not what it
looks like.”
The great Eugene Levy (Splash,
Best in Show) hits a high point in
his well-respected career as the
birds-and-the-bees obsessed father,
terrified that his son will never reach
beyond expert masturbation. Imagine a worried father showing his son pornographic
magazines the likes of “Shaved” to get
him prepared for sex. You don’t have to imagine, it’s done perfectly here.
Add to that some of the most painful
scenes since There’s Something About
Mary, including an Internet broadcasted
striptease by Jason Biggs (Saving
Silverman), a man-chowder spoiled beer
puking scene, and a mad, gas powered dash
for the bathroom.
This is a classic.
