The Human Experience by JE De Matteo

Here's one more example that men are
men and women are women. Like All
Quiet on the Western Front we come
to understand what makes us alike,
rather than what makes us all
different. The two major things
that makes us different in the world we
share are language and religion.
We can come to respect the beliefs of
others, or just to pigeon whole them,
but we can only do that through
communications. War, between
religions, countries, families or
individuals can be found in the deep end
of the septic tank. It stinks and
it's hurtful. However, there are
those that get really worked up about
the reasons for particular wars, and
religion nor words have affect on
them. The problem is that they
drive the rest of us to suffer the same
through the same crap, no mater which
side we're on. I'm no Dove, by the
way. I supported the Viet Nam War
at the time, and even though I know as
much of the truth as I've been allowed
to know about it, I still think we
should have gone in and got it over with
ASAP, and come out winners. The
only difference is that now I believe we
should have strung up those bastards who
were pulling the strings, and
bullshitting us at the time. I
can't help but feel some regular
whatever the equivalent of
"Joe" is in Vietnamese, was
laying is some muddy field felling just
like one of my friends just before he
bought the farm. And that's what
the value of movies like this are, to
remind us, the nameless masses (as far
as those panty wipes on high are
concerned), that we're all the
same. We want to drink too much alcohol,
we're willing to work too many hours to
get a little ahead, and speaking of a
little head, well there's another
similarity. And Das Boot brings
many of them out perfectly.
