The
Fifth Element
by J. E. De Matteo
HUGE
Two and a half hours ago I walked up to my movie
shelf- everyone was in bed…
The kids fast asleep, my
wife was reading, her high intensity reading light reflecting off the
mirrored doors of our closet. I’d
been about ready to fall asleep, but now, as tired as I’d been,
sleep had been pushed off by a blaze of light . . .
My eyes fixed on a movie,
“Wow, I wish I’d never seen that one.
Tonight could be the first time.”
But it wouldn’t be the first time; it would be the 6th
or 7th time.
I
really needed something that could hold my attention tonight.
I convinced myself that I actually couldn’t remember everything
about the movie. Sure I
could remember Bruce Willis “negotiation technique” well enough.
That did it. I
grabbed the movie, got some sunflower seeds and popped it in the
machine.
Feet up, drink and food at
hand, I hit the play button.
Of course Bruce Willis is
the perfect Korben Dallas, Ian Holm, the perfect priest and Gary Oldman,
well, no one else could make Zorg so believable.
Leeloo is wonderfully portrayed by Milla
Javovich. The old priest at
the beginning and Prof. Pacoli and Billy, John Bennett, John Bluthal and
Luke Perry are all fantastic. The
whole opening scene is great. This
is another movie where the casting was flawless (Lucinda Syson).
Oh, I almost forgot,
remember Uncle Benny from Lethal Weapon 4, “you plik?”
Kim Chan as Thia runs a great theme restaurant in New York City
in 2214.
The Fifth Element is great
fun and full of action and noise (thanks to Chris Tucker).
I enjoyed it so much tonight that I just had to take the time to
tell you about it.
