Before and After: updates and previews

January 2008 by Joe De Matteo

The powers that be over Killshot, a film I have been excitedly awaiting - for far too long, is now projecting  a release date of April 11, 2008.

Diane Lane, for me, is the perfect choice to portray Carman Colson, a woman who's life changes after she witnesses a murder and therefore is marked for death..  Ms. Lane has that hometown look to her, a beautiful woman who could be that real estate broker or restaurateur, and thereby makes her character someone we can believe in.

April 11th?  I'll buy the ticket, they just have to release a well edited worthy production.  (Though I'm hoping to see it sooner.)

December 2007 by Joe De Matteo

Another year has gone by, and I'm not so much "excited" about waiting for Killshot anymore.  There was a limited release back in May (2007), however the film is now showing a release date as the year 2008.  I cannot find any information as to why they are not releasing the film.  One can only guess that "they" are not happy with the finished product.  I have seen bits of it, and the trailers, which all look promising, but bits and pieces often have no relationship to the finished product.  It's like a friend excitedly describing a woman to you...and then you meet her.

So here is the lowdown: Killshot is in the can, or not; it looks good, but may not be; distribution is waiting for the exact right moment to release it, or they're desperately trying to get ride of it.  My question now is, "has Killshot suffered a kill-shot?"

August 2007 - Joe De Matteo

I've been watching this film's progression for two years.  My expectations have been a rollercoaster ride, and now I'm in a valley, but not the lowest valley to date.

March 2007 by Joe De Matteo

Yes, Killshot is still "in production.  And, I have to tell you once more, I am dieing to see this film: Mickey Rourke is my favorite bad guy; more importantly, Diane Lane and Rosario Dawson are two of my very favorite people to look at.

There is a trailer in limited release, I hope you've gotten a look at it.  It promises a non-stop ride of a movie.  Let's hope this is a promise not broken; I'll be really ticked off if it is.

At this time there is no set release date other than "2007."  The film is still classified as "In Production," with only 2 stills released, however, go to the The Weinstein Company site and click on Coming Soon still of Killshot and see a scary photo of Mickey Rourke.

October 2006 by Joe De Matteo

There hasn't been much news about this film.  I've been worried that it was going to go nowhere as some film adaptations of Elmore Leonard books have.

However, I have a preview clip and it looks like all action, suspense and lots of tension. Mickey Rourke will have you looking over your shoulder for weeks.

I can't wait.

December 2005 by Joe De Matteo

It looks like Thomas Jane (last seen in Punisher) has replaced Viggo Mortensen as Wayne Colson, in this latest Elmore Leonard book to film.  And it also appears that Justin Timberlake is out as bad guy number 2.  I certainly welcome the beautiful and talented Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent) to the cast.  This is potentially a good thriller in the making.  I've got my eye on it and will report any notable changes or updates.

June 2005 by Joe De Matteo

Carmen (Diane Lane) and Wayne Colson have the misfortune of witnessing Mickey Rourke, the professional strong arm/hitman and Justin Timberlake, a the young stick up artist/killer, in an excessive shake down.  The couple goes into a flawed witness protection program and the story proceeds as most Elmore Leonard stories do.

While John Madden is not known for the Crime genre, he is an excellent director.  Madden has made some very beautiful films, like Captain Corelli's Mandolin, where the location is skillfully used to move the story along, this gives promises a more stylish Elmore Leonard picture  .

With John Madden directing this acting talent, I'm confident Killshot will be one of the best Elmore Leonard book-to-film productions ever.
