Moving, Exciting.  Not just another War Flick

Tears of the Sun has all the elements of a good war movie; from the camaraderie of soldiers, to the good dialog, and some really excellent battle scenes.  But it has more: a strong and beautiful woman, helpless children, selfless clergy and a terrible and ruthless enemy.  Tears of the Sun is a smart, tough film; with a very good story.. 
 

 We watch the characters and see how each of these very different people deal with the horrors of war.  

We watch as things slowly get personal for the American soldiers, while their opponents keep humanity a word in a foreign dictionary.   

In the above title I use the word moving, this is one moving film.  It will get you on many levels.  Maybe Tears of the Sun is a story about humanity. 

So many questions are still in my mind, and each time I see the film, I come out with some answers, but more questions.  However, questions will come to mind the next time I think about the film.

Sure, you can go in and view it at face value, and maybe you should on the first viewing.  But with each subsequent viewing you'll find more and more story, more and more character, and for me at least, more questions.  And maybe they are questions that the film cannot answer, but can only pose.

I don't understand why this film didn't do better.  Frankly, its success was disappointing.  I guess many people just didn't get it.  Maybe they went to see Bruce Willis crack wise...but he doesn't. 

I got it though, and maybe that is because I always expect more from Bruce Willis.  He is a great actor.  After reading this, if you see it, I hope you'll get it too.  I hope you get the excitement this excellent film has for me.

After 2 viewings, I purchased the DVD.  Purchasing it was a good decision.
